GENERAL FUNCTION:
Responsible for assisting the manufacturing supervisors in the achievement of business goals such as quality, productivity, breakage, and costs by providing direction (offering coaching and feedback) to production associates through the coordination of daily workflow
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide timely and effective feedback to associates based on individual quality performance and productivity standards; help associates understand the responsibility to “own” the quality of their work. Seek understanding from associates to address ongoing issues.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and hold other associates accountable when demonstrating demeaning, demoralizing, or negative attitudes; treat all associates with respect and dignity and hold associates accountable. Actively support management decisions and communicate concerns to management when appropriate.
  • Actively display managerial courage by proactively addressing issues and conflicts; take ownership for the team and their performance.
  • Actively manage the team for a continuous workflow spotting constraints prior to them creating a gap in the line; measure variations in flow by tracking standards each hour and make appropriate course corrections as needed. Seek guidance when necessary.
  • Conduct productive start-up meetings that effectively communicate the daily goals and previous shift performance. In addition, solicit associate feedback on missed opportunities and successes.
  • Demonstrate use of root cause analysis skills – first, seek to truly understand the dynamics of the problem, collect the necessary data, develop a solution while involving associates, create an effective measurement structure to monitor results and make immediate course corrections, and conduct follow-up inspection to assure adherence. Review the breakage sheet from the previous shift and week-to-date breakage sheet: provide brief and daily feedback to associates on areas of improvement.
  • Create a formal pre-shift plan that describes associate line up, ship goals, quality goals, and shift challenges that current set-up will encounter during shift; discuss plan with supervision and seek guidance where necessary.
  • Develop and provide a formal end of shift wrap-up report that includes a list of bullet points describing current condition of facility at shift end, machine calibration, and set-up.
  • Follow through with training commitments outlined in weekly training plan: actively participate in weekly training meetings by providing updates on associate progress and make recommendations on potential training opportunities.
  • Participate in the interview process: conduct interviews as needed, take applicants on a facility tour and explain the work process/environment, and assist in the decision making process.
  • Participate in new employee orientation and training; motivate and encourage new hires and existing associates to improve associate retention. Work with supervision and the training coordinator to determine where to place the new hires based on the OE Model.
  • Work effectively with other departments that support the manufacturing process such as maintenance and stockroom/customer service. Proactively and effectively communicates issues.
  • Efficiently manage resources in area of responsibility including materials, productivity, processing priority work, and workflow.
  • Demonstrate reliability in attendance and punctuality, including breaks and lunch periods.
  • Support, follow, and monitor all safety requirements and provide immediate feedback where necessary.
  • Maintain adherence to company policies.
  • Assume additional responsibilities and perform special projects as needed or directed


Job Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
High school diploma or GED and three years related experience, and one year supervisory experience. Experience in ISO 9000, optical training, cellular and LEAN manufacturing is helpful. Competent in PC and statistical skills. Good communication (oral and written) skills. Ability to work with peers and upper management.
 
Physical Requirements:
Able to rotate from sitting and standing for long periods of time. Bend or twist as needed. Use of repetitive motion of hands and wrists as necessary. Lift up to 75 pounds.
